India Exports GI-Certified Jalgaon Bananas to Dubai, Boosting Agricultural Exports from Maharashtra's Banana Cluster.
A consignment of Geographical Indications (GI) certified Jalgaon bananas has been exported to Dubai, marking a significant step in boosting India's agricultural exports. The 22 metric tonnes of bananas were sourced from Tandalwadi village in Maharashtra, a recognized banana cluster under the Agri Export Policy. Jalgaon bananas received GI certification in 2016. India's banana exports have increased due to improved farming practices, with exports rising from 1.34 lakh metric tonnes worth Rs. 413 crore in 2018-19 to 1.91 lakh metric tonnes worth Rs. 619 crore in 2020-21. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the Department of Commerce support these exports through various initiatives.
