Finance Ministry Releases Rs. 6,000 Crore Loan to Address GST Compensation Shortfall for States and UTs.
The Ministry of Finance has released the seventh installment of Rs. 6,000 crore as a back-to-back loan to states and union territories (UTs) to address the GST compensation shortfall. To date, Rs. 42,000 crore has been distributed among 23 states and three UTs with legislative assemblies. Five states have no GST revenue gap. The central government established a special borrowing window in October 2020 to manage the estimated Rs. 1.10 lakh crore shortfall due to GST implementation. Additionally, states have been permitted to borrow up to 0.50% of their Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) to further aid financial resources.
