India Strengthens Measures to Combat Fake Currency: Enhanced Security, Vigilance, and Detection Efforts Ongoing.
The Government of India has implemented several measures to combat the circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN). These include enhanced vigilance by the Border Security Force and Customs, dissemination of information on security features, and the establishment of Forged Note Vigilance Cells in bank head offices. Since 2005, additional security features have been added to banknotes, with further enhancements underway. A high-level committee led by the Union Home Secretary has been formed to develop strategies against FICN, with similar bodies in states. The Central Bureau of Investigation is the designated agency for monitoring fake currency investigations, and the RBI has improved counterfeit detection by banks.
