India Establishes Directorate General of Trade Remedies to Protect Domestic Industries from Unfair Trade Practices.
The Department of Commerce has established the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) within the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, following amendments to the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961. DGTR will serve as the primary national authority for trade remedial measures, consolidating the Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties, Directorate General of Safeguards, and Safeguards (QR) functions. It aims to support domestic industries against unfair trade practices, with a sanctioned strength of 112 posts. The creation aligns with the government's goal of 'Minimum Government, Maximum Governance,' and is expected to save 49 government posts.
