EPCES Calls for Restoration of Tax Benefits to Boost Growth and Job Creation in Special Economic Zones.
The Export Promotion Council for Special Economic Zones (EPCES) urged the government to restore tax benefits to support the growth and job creation in SEZs, as the recent budget lacked measures for the sector. EPCES highlighted the need to remove the minimum alternate tax (MAT) and continue existing tax incentives. SEZs offer significant tax exemptions on export income, but have faced challenges due to MAT and sunset clauses. As of December 2017, 423 SEZs were approved, with 222 operational, and exports from these zones grew by 21% in December.
