of <h1>Finance Minister Approves CBEC Reorganization to CBIC for GST Implementation; Enhances Taxpayer Services and Anti-Evasion Measures Nationwide.</h1> The Union Finance Minister has approved the reorganization of the Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC) to implement the Goods & Services Tax (GST), renaming it as the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC). The CBIC will oversee 21 Zones, 101 GST Taxpayer Services Commissionerates, and numerous other divisions, ensuring comprehensive taxpayer services nationwide. The Directorate General of Systems and the Directorate General Tax Payer Services are being strengthened to support a smooth GST transition. Additionally, the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes, and Narcotics will focus on capacity building, while the Directorate General of Goods Service Tax Intelligence will combat tax evasion.
