Substantial paper saving effort by budget wing of Railway Ministry in preparation and communication of Rail Budget 2016-17

With the advent of electronic medium of transmission of communication, there has been a continuous emphasis on avoiding unnecessary use of paper, duly substituted by better and increasing use of computer based communication. It is an environment friendly initiative.

A very good initiative has been taken by Budget Wing of Railway Ministry by resorting to an alternative methodology of communicating budget information on (a) Pink Book and (b) Demands for Grants, on a need based selective method, thereby reducing unwanted paper communication to various field units of Railways.  The information is being sent using IT tools – Intranet, internet, e-mail etc. This effort has resulted in saving of 12 lac sheets of A-4 size paper and printing of 26 lac pages. This in recurring manner amounts to a significant contribution to conservation of environmental resources besides financial savings.

Indian Railways has started a new micro-site for latest Railway Budget update and live budget watch.  It will be a one-stop shop for all Railway budget related information.  One can watch budget live also here. Its URL is http://www.railbudget2016.indianrailways.gov.in

Complete latest information with regard to Rail budget 2016-17 and all current data base is available on this micro-site for ready reference for media and common public.

Paperless communication for the railway budget shifts distribution online and centralizes live public access via a micro site. Adoption of paperless communication replaces routine physical circulation of the Pink Book and Demands for Grants with selective, need based electronic transmission via intranet, internet and e mail, reducing printing and distribution burdens. A dedicated micro site centralizes up to date Rail Budget information and live coverage, allowing media and the public ready access to budget datasets and broadcasts without printed copies, thereby supporting environmental conservation and operational efficiency.
Cases where this provision is explicitly mentioned in the judgment/order text; may not be exhaustive. To view the complete list of cases mentioning this section, Click here.
