Acting upon a specific intelligence, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance carried-out a synchronized and coordinated operation spread over Mount Abu and Ahmedabad and seized 218.43 Kilograms of Mephedrone Hydrochloride (a psychotropic substance under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985) from the factory premises of M/s Rishi Minechem Pvt. Ltd., D-220, RIICO Industrial Growth Centre, Phase-II, Maval, Abu Road, Mount Abu, Rajsthan on 25th May 2015. Besides, 15.40 Kilograms of Methamphetamine was also seized under the NDPS Act 1985 from the factory premises of M/s Lucent Pharma, Plot No. 3058 / 3059, Phase, GIDC, Chhatral, Taluka- Kalol, District Gandhinagar.
In the case, total 5 persons including the kingpin and mastermind of the case, the director of M/s Rishi Minechem, partner of M/s Lucent Pharma, one chemist and a technical expert have been arrested. The International market value of the seized Mephedrone is ₹ 30.58 crore and of seized Methamphetamine is ₹ 15.40 crore. Further investigation in the case is under process.
Mephedrone has been recently added to the schedule to NDPS Act, 1985 containing the list of psychotropic substances vide Gazette Notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India on 05.02.2015. In the last 3 months, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has effected seizure of close to 1250 kg Mephedrone and busted 4 factories ever since it was notified as a Psychotropic substance under the NDPS Act 1985.
Psychotropic substance scheduling prompts large seizures and arrests under NDPS Act in coordinated industrial enforcement across states. Directorate of Revenue Intelligence carried out coordinated enforcement at industrial premises in Mount Abu and Ahmedabad, seizing substantial quantities of mephedrone-recently scheduled as a psychotropic substance under the NDPS Act-and methamphetamine, and arresting five persons including company principals, a chemist and a technical expert; further investigation into manufacturing and distribution is ongoing.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
