The Ministry of Steel issued an order mandating compliance with Indian Standards for input materials used in steel and steel products covered under the Steel and Steel Products Quality Control Order 2024. The order affects 151 Indian Standards covering steel products under ITC(HS) chapters 72 and 73, requiring mandatory SIMS portal registration. Input material standards are mapped to respective steel product standards to ensure quality compliance. The CBIC instructed all customs authorities to enforce these requirements for imports with Bills of Lading dated on or after 16 June 2025. Customs officers must verify adherence to both primary product standards and corresponding input material standards during import clearance procedures.
