MRP valuation requires imported items subject to MRP rules to have an MRP sticker or an importer declaration for customs valuation.
MRP valuation under Section 4A of the Central Excise Act applies to items within the MRP valuation regime and requires valuation on import consignments for the purpose of CVD. To comply, importers may either ensure the import package bears an MRP sticker for sale in India or provide a declaration to Customs specifying the MRP at which the imported item will be sold in India. (AI Summary)

Is it mandatory to have MRP label on Import we do in India & Foreign countries ? Many of my clients import mobile cover from china and as the QTY is small the suppliers are not able to cope up with our regulations, due to this heavy importation cost has to be bare by small importers of mobile cover at JNPT port, please share your views regarding this MRP issues on importation and exportation of goods.

Thank You

Dear Friend,

Any item which covers under MRP valuation ( Section 4A of CE Act) in India requires to be valued under MRP valuation on import consignments for the purpose of payment of CVD.

In view of this, there are two options available and they are

  1. the import package should contain a sticker with MRP to be sold in INdia ( it is possible based on the understanding between the supplier and the importer; or
  2. Giving a declaration by the importer to the Customs Authorities under what MRP the imported item would be sold in India after import.

Best Regards,
