SEBI Introduces Annual Call Auction for Price Discovery in Investment Companies to Boost Liquidity and Investor Interest.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has introduced a special call auction mechanism for price discovery of scrips of listed Investment Companies (ICs) and Investment Holding Companies (IHCs). This initiative addresses concerns over infrequent trading and discrepancies between market prices and book values, which affect liquidity and investor interest. Eligible ICs and IHCs are identified based on criteria such as industry classification, trading history, and asset composition. The auction, conducted without price bands, requires participation from at least five unique buyers and sellers. The mechanism will be implemented annually, starting October 2024, with necessary amendments and risk management measures by stock exchanges.
