India Requires NOC for Ozone Depleting Substances Import under Advance Authorization Scheme; Aligns with Montreal Protocol.
The circular from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade mandates that a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is required for the import of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) under the Advance Authorization Scheme. This is in line with India's commitment to phasing out ODS as per the Montreal Protocol and Vienna Convention. The import policy classifies ODS as restricted, necessitating an NOC from the DGFT, in consultation with the Ministry of Environment & Forests. Imports must be entirely exported with the manufactured product, and no domestic consumption is allowed. From 2010, ODS imports, even with valid authorization, will be prohibited.
