SEZ Board Approves Extensions, Co-Developer Status, and New Projects; Sets Conditions for Compliance at 61st Meeting.
The 61st Board of Approval meeting for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) on April 3, 2014, chaired by the Commerce Secretary, reviewed various proposals related to SEZs. The Board extended the validity of formal approvals and Letters of Permission (LoP) for multiple SEZ projects across India, including those in pharmaceuticals, IT/ITES, and multi-product sectors. Several requests for co-developer status and changes in project scope or developer identity were approved. The Board also granted in-principle approvals for new SEZs and addressed appeals against previous decisions. Specific conditions were imposed for compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.
