Containers intended for temporary import are exempt from customs duties if re-exported within six months. A uniform procedure for clearance includes using a 'continuity bond' without a bank guarantee, executed by shipping lines or authorized agents. The bond covers only the duty on containers, valid for a year, extendable upon request. Monitoring of importation periods will be manual until an automated system is developed. The instructions should be communicated to the trade immediately.
