Finance Ministry Amends Duty-Free Import Rules for Trading Units Under EOU/ETHP/STP; No Extensions After LOP Expiry.
The circular issued by the Ministry of Finance addresses amendments to notifications concerning duty-free import/procurement by trading units under the EOU/ETHP/STP schemes. The new Export and Import Policy (2002-07) eliminated provisions for setting up trading units under the EOU/EPZ schemes. However, trading units existing before March 31, 2002, with valid Letters of Permission (LOP), are allowed to continue until their LOP expires. Notifications have been amended to reflect this decision, but no extensions will be granted post-expiry. The amendments are not retroactive and do not affect EPZ units, as EPZs have been converted to SEZs. Public notice is advised.
