of <h1>Section 418(2) allows voluntary higher interest payments on provident funds if financially feasible, despite specified rate limits.</h1> Sub-section (2) of section 418 restricts the right of a company employee to receive interest from a provident fund at a rate higher than specified. However, it does not prevent employees from receiving, nor trustees from paying, higher interest voluntarily if they are financially capable. This circular clarifies that while there is a restriction on the specified rate, the voluntary payment of higher interest is permissible, provided the financial situation allows it.
