Special Economic Zones Must Cover 1000 Hectares, Meet Legal Criteria, and Dedicate 25% to Industrial Development.
Proposals for establishing Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in public, private, joint, or state sectors must meet specific criteria. The SEZ must cover at least 1000 hectares, except for existing Export Processing Zones converting to SEZs or product-specific SEZs. Compliance with local laws, including area planning, pollution control, and industrial and labor laws, is mandatory. SEZs must fulfill all legal requirements and only approved units under the SEZ Scheme can be located there. At least 25% of the SEZ area should be dedicated to industrial development, with the primary goal of creating infrastructure to support industrial units.
