Mizoram's Special Status Under Article 371-G: Protecting Religious Practices, Customary Law and Land Rights
Article 371-G provides special provisions for Mizoram, stipulating that Parliamentary acts regarding Mizo religious/social practices, customary law, administration of justice involving customary law, and land ownership/transfer require approval by resolution of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly before application to the state. This protection excludes Central Acts already in force in the Union Territory of Mizoram before the 53rd Amendment Act, 1986. The article also mandates that the Mizoram Legislative Assembly must consist of at least forty members.
