Extension of Reservations for Scheduled Castes, Tribes, and Anglo-Indians in Legislative Bodies by 10 Years Under Article 334
The Constitution (62nd Amendment) Act, 1989, addresses Article 334, which initially set a 40-year limit on the reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and the nomination of Anglo-Indians in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. Despite progress, the reasons for these provisions remain valid. The amendment proposes extending these reservations and nominations for an additional ten years to continue supporting the representation of these communities. The Bill aims to implement this extension.
