Constitutional amendment commencement: Seventy-ninth Amendment came into force after state ratification and presidential assent. The Constitution (Seventy-ninth Amendment) Act, 1999 was enacted after ratification by not less than one-half of the State Legislatures and received the President's assent; the Act specifies its short title and an operative commencement clause declaring the date on which the Amendment shall come into force.
