of <h1>Constitution (84th Amendment) Act, 2001: Article 170 Updates Legislative Assembly Seat Readjustment Based on 1971 and 1991 Censuses.</h1> Article 170 of the Constitution has been amended by the Constitution (84th Amendment) Act, 2001. In clause (2), the years '2000' and '1971' have been replaced with '2026' and '1991,' respectively. In the third proviso to clause (3), the year '2000' is substituted with '2026.' Additionally, the provision now specifies that the total number of seats in the Legislative Assembly of each State will be readjusted based on the 1971 census, and the division of such States into territorial constituencies will be readjusted based on the 1991 census.
