Medical reimbursement rules for employees' family care: outdoor claims capped at one month's pay; indoor at authorised hospitals
Officers and employees are entitled to medical reimbursement for themselves and declared family members, with 'family' defined as under the Central Services (Medical Attendance) Rules, 1944. Reimbursement for outdoor medical expenses is capped at the lower of actual expenditure or one month's pay (basic pay plus dearness allowance) as on 1 January of the year; claims must be supported by a doctor's prescription and original bills, the cap remains fixed notwithstanding increments or promotions during the year, and entitlement for those joining mid-year is prorated. Outdoor treatment must be taken from authorised medical attendants on a panel maintained by the Appellate Tribunal. For indoor treatment, entitlement is for treatment at authorised hospitals, with costs governed by the 1944 Rules as applicable to Central Government employees drawing equivalent pay, and treatment at authorised hospitals is to be taken on an authorised medical attendant's advice, except in emergencies.
