Contract labour wages: contractor must pay electronically; principal employer liable if contractor defaults and may recover costs.

Section 55 requires the contractor to pay contract labour wages within the prescribed period by bank transfer or electronic mode and to inform the principal employer of amounts paid; where impracticable, a prescribed alternative applies. If the contractor defaults or short-pays, the principal employer is liable to pay the unpaid wages and may recover the amount from the contractor by deduction or as a debt. The appropriate Government may direct payment from the contractor's licence security deposit in the prescribed manner.
