Resignation or voluntary retirement is required before a serving judge or organised service member joins the tribunal.

Rule 6 requires a serving Judge of the Supreme Court or a High Court, or a serving member of an organised service, appointed as President or Member of the Tribunal, to resign or take voluntary retirement before joining the Tribunal. It governs the transition from the parent service to Tribunal office and makes cessation of the prior service a precondition to assumption of the Tribunal appointment.
