Section 143(2) notice timing in block assessment raises statutory applicability and natural justice requirements under Chapter XIV-B.
Application of the notice requirement under section 143(2) to block assessments under Chapter XIV-B involves the statutory qualification "so far as may be", the proviso prescribing the notice time limit, and compliance with principles of natural justice, including audi alteram partem. The key legal focus is whether and how the regular assessment notice procedure and its temporal limits operate within the special block-assessment framework.
Notice timing in block assessments tests application of regular assessment safeguards and audi alteram partem requirements.
Notice under section 143(2) in a block assessment under Chapter XIV-B raises the extent to which regular assessment procedures apply so far as may be. The key issues concern whether the proviso prescribing the notice time limit governs such block assessments and whether timely notice is required to satisfy audi alteram partem requirements.
Co-operative bank deposit interest qualifies for Section 80P deduction when earned by a co-operative society.
Section 80P(2)(d) permits a co-operative society to deduct interest income derived from investments or deposits with another co-operative society. Section 80P(4) prevents a co-operative bank from claiming deduction under Section 80P but does not alter its status as a co-operative society registered under applicable State co-operative societies law. Interest received by a co-operative society on deposits with co-operative banks therefore qualifies for deduction under Section 80P(2)(d).

Late filing charges for delayed Bills of Entry may be waived by the designated proper officer. A separate ICES ACL-menu function de-links the waiver from Bill of Entry assessment. Before duty payment, an officer with the ACL role may process the waiver after obtaining the required approval, without recalling the Bill of Entry. This avoids reassessment of RMS-facilitated Bills of Entry solely for reduction or removal of late filing charges.

Co-operative bank interest qualifies for Section 80P deduction when the bank remains a co-operative society.
Section 80P(2)(d) allows a co-operative society to deduct interest derived from investments with another co-operative society. A co-operative bank continues to fall within the definition of a co-operative society under Section 2(19), even though Section 80P(4) excludes the bank itself from claiming a deduction under Section 80P. Where conflicting non-jurisdictional High Court decisions exist, the interpretation favourable to the assessee applies. Interest income from bank investments was therefore treated as eligible for deduction under Section 80P(2)(a)(i) or Section 80P(2)(d).
