Roasted areca nuts classify as other roasted nuts, not dried nuts, because roasting exceeds Chapter 8 processing.
Roasted areca nuts, whether whole, split or cut, fall under tariff item 2008 19 20 in Chapter 20 as other roasted nuts and seeds. High-temperature roasting, cooling and repeated roasting cycles are materially different from the drying, dehydration or moderate heat treatment permitted for Chapter 8 products. Heading 2008 and its HSN Explanatory Notes specifically include dry-roasted, oil-roasted and fat-roasted areca or betel nuts. The specific tariff entry for roasted nuts therefore prevails over the general entry applicable to dried nuts.

Bogus purchase liabilities can be taxed as unexplained credits when records and bank accounts fail to establish genuineness.
Section 68 of the Income-tax Act applies to an unexplained bogus liability recorded in the books, even where the credit does not represent a cash receipt. A purchase from a related concern was found non-genuine from supporting records and bank-account examination, leaving the corresponding liability as an unsubstantiated paper entry. As no plausible explanation established the liability's genuineness, the amount credited as the bogus purchase liability was liable to be added to income under Section 68.

Share-sale capital gains require complete third-party verification before unexplained-credit additions or exemption denial can be sustained on remand.
Share-sale proceeds and the claimed long-term capital gain required fresh verification where purchase records, dematerialised holdings, stock-exchange sales and banking receipts were available, but the investigation into alleged exit providers remained incomplete. Unserved notices alone did not complete verification because the identified providers were not properly examined, the taxpayer lacked a reasonable opportunity to address that verification, and no enquiry was made from the person said to have handled the transactions. Withdrawal of the scrip's trading suspension indicated no continuing trading bar. The matter was remitted to the Assessing Officer for further investigation and relevant statements.
