of <h1>Government Exempts Certain Goods from National Calamity Contingent Duty Under Excise Act and Finance Act Amendments</h1> The Central Government, exercising powers under the Central Excise Act, 1944, and the Finance Act, 2001, exempts goods classified under heading No. 5402 or tariff item 54060010 of the First Schedule to the Central Excise Tariff Act, 1985, from the National Calamity Contingent Duty (NCCD). This exemption applies if such goods are manufactured from goods under the same heading or tariff item. Amendments to the classification numbers were made in subsequent notifications in 2006.
