Government Waives Excise Duty on Intermediate Goods from 1996-2002 for Gold Jewelry Manufacturing under Section 11C
The Central Government has issued Notification No. 51/2003-CE(N.T.) dated June 6, 2003, concerning the excise duty on intermediate goods under Chapter 28, which arise during the manufacture of gold jewelry under Chapter 71. It acknowledges that, from April 1, 1996, to August 17, 2002, there was a general practice of not levying excise duty on these intermediate goods. Exercising powers under Section 11C of the Central Excise Act, the government directs that the excise duty not levied during this period shall not be required to be paid on such goods.
