of <h1>New Schedule Entry Under Section 126 of Income-tax Act: Expanded Roles for Defence Accounts and Audit Officials</h1> The Central Board of Direct Taxes, exercising its authority under section 126 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, has announced additions to the Schedule annexed to Notification No. 1 dated May 18, 1964. The new entry, added after Serial No. 15, includes various officials under the jurisdiction of the Income Tax Officer, Inspecting Assistant Commissioner, and Appellate Assistant Commissioner in Lucknow and Meerut. These officials, such as the Controller of Defence Accounts and Deputy Directors of Audit for Defence Services in Meerut, are vested with powers to hear appeals against decisions made by the Income-tax Officer.
