of <h1>BHEL Gains Excise Duty Exemption for Defense Goods Under Amended Notification Effective July 31, 2003.</h1> The Central Government, under the powers granted by the Central Excise Act, 1944, and the Additional Duties of Excise Act, 1957, has amended a previous notification to exempt goods manufactured by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for defense purposes from central excise duty. This amendment, effective from July 31, 2003, adds BHEL to the list of entities eligible for this exemption, as specified in the original notification dated March 16, 1995, which has been amended several times, most recently in June 2001.
