M/s. Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone Limited, a private entity, proposed the SEZ under the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005. The Central Government, satisfied with the proposal's compliance with legal requirements, issued a letter of approval on March 18, 2008. The notified SEZ area comprises specific survey numbers totaling 1074.17.55 hectares. The notification was issued by the Department of Commerce on May 2, 2008.
