<h1>Central Government Appoints Income Tax Commissioners as Special Directors under FEMA Section 17(1) to Hear Appeals Nationwide.</h1> The Central Government, under section 17(1) of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999, appoints certain Commissioners of Income Tax (Appeals) as Special Directors (Appeals) to hear appeals against orders of Adjudicating Authorities. This notification supersedes an earlier one from February 27, 2002. The appointed Special Directors (Appeals) will operate within specified zones and sub-zones across various Indian states and union territories, including Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi, among others. Their jurisdictions are detailed in a table, and they will assume these additional responsibilities from the notification's publication date in the Official Gazette.
