<h1>India Amends Foreign Trade Policy to Allow Free Import of Prime Steel Items with Minimum c.i.f. Value Requirement</h1> The Government of India has amended the Foreign Trade Policy 1997-2002 and the ITC(HS) Classification of Export and Import items. Effective from December 11, 1998, the amendment allows the free import of specified prime steel items, provided the cost, insurance, and freight (c.i.f.) value meets or exceeds specified minimum thresholds. The specified items include H.R. Coils, HR Sheets, CR Coils, Tinplates, Electrical Sheets (CRNO), Plates, and Alloy Steel Bars & Rods. This amendment, issued under the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, is intended to serve the public interest.
