India Amends Export-Import Policy 1997-2002: Bans Import of Plastic Waste Under Foreign Trade Act, 1992
The Government of India has amended the Export and Import Policy for 1997-2002, specifically targeting the import of various plastic waste materials. Under the new amendments, all forms of waste, parings, and scrap of plastics are prohibited from being imported. This includes specific items such as polymers of ethylene, styrene, vinyl chloride, phenoplast, aminoplast, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle waste, and various other plastic waste materials. These changes are implemented under the authority of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, to regulate and control the import of environmentally sensitive materials.
