Amendment to Foreign Trade Policy 2004-2009: EOUs, EHTPs, STPs, BTPs Can Subcontract Production Abroad Without Export Permission
The Central Government has issued amendments to the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2004-2009, effective October 4, 2007, under the authority of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992. The amendment specifically revises Paragraph 6.14 (b) (iv) of the FTP, allowing Export Oriented Units (EOU), Electronic Hardware Technology Parks (EHTP), Software Technology Parks (STP), and Bio-Technology Parks (BTP) to subcontract parts of their production process abroad. These units can send intermediate products abroad without requiring permission to export from subcontractor premises. However, prior notification to the Development Commissioner and Customs authorities is necessary when goods are returned.
