<h1>Central Govt Exempts Certain Goods from National Calamity Duty: Betel Nut Products, Non-Machine Biris, Hookah Tobacco.</h1> The notification dated March 1, 2001, issued by the Central Government under the Central Excise Act, 1944, exempts certain goods from the National Calamity Contingent duty. The exempted goods include: (1) products containing not more than ten percent betel nut by weight and no tobacco, provided they are not branded or manufactured alongside other goods under heading 21.06; (2) non-machine-made biris, unbranded, with first clearances up to 20 lakhs annually; and (3) tobacco for hookah or chilam. This notification was later superseded by Notification No. 26/2001-CE on May 11, 2001.
