of <h1>Central Government Expands Exemption Scheme Limits for Meghalaya Regions Under Notification No. 51/2001-CE</h1> The Central Government has amended Notification No. 32/99-CE dated 8th July 1999, concerning the exemption scheme for specified areas in Meghalaya. Under this amendment, the specified area limits for the 'North East' and 'North' regions have been expanded from 'within 150 metres' and 'within 100 metres' to 'within 500 metres,' respectively. This change is made under the powers conferred by relevant sections of the Central Excise Act, 1944, and related acts, to serve the public interest. This amendment is documented in Notification No. 51/2001-CE, dated 12th October 2001.
