Customs duty on textile imports from SAARC nations reduced from 10% to 5% under SAFTA agreement, effective July 1, 2007.
The notification amends the previous customs notification 68/2006, dated June 30, 2006, to enhance concessions for textile items imported from SAARC member states under the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) agreement. The amendment reduces the customs duty rates for various textile goods, including upholstery fabrics and other textiles, from 10% to 5%. These changes are intended to promote trade within the SAARC region and will take effect from July 1, 2007. The notification is issued under the authority of the Customs Act, 1962, and is part of the Indian government's efforts to facilitate regional trade.
