DGFT Restricts Worn Clothing Imports; SEZ Units Can Sell 15% in DTA Under Foreign Trade Policy 2004-09.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a notification restricting the import of worn clothing, as per the Foreign Trade Policy 2004-09. However, it allows units in Special Economic Zones (SEZ) to sell up to 15% of the Cost, Insurance, and Freight (CIF) value of these imports in the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA). This amendment is made under the powers conferred by the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, and is intended to serve the public interest. The relevant changes are incorporated into the Import Licensing Note of Chapter 63 of the ITC(HS) Classifications.
