Import Policy Update: Edible Imports Must Comply with Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954 for Customs Clearance.
The Central Government has amended the Import Policy under Chapter I A of the ITC (HS) Classification of Export and Import Items 2004-09. Specifically, Condition 8 now mandates that the import of edible and food products, including tea, must comply with the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954. These imports must meet the quality and packaging standards outlined in the Act before customs clearance is permitted. This amendment is issued in the public interest by the Director General of Foreign Trade.
