India Updates Import Rules: ATVs Exempt from Certain Conditions Under Chapter 87, No CMVR Registration Needed
The Government of India has amended the ITC (HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items for 2002-2007. Under the authority of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, a new clause has been added to Chapter 87 regarding import licensing. The amendment exempts the import of All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), designed for off-road sports, recreation, and some farm use, from certain conditions previously listed. These vehicles do not require registration under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR). This amendment is issued in the public interest by the Director General of Foreign Trade.
