<h1>India Amends Import Policy: Cotton Imports Free, Require Registration Until March 31, 2000, Under Foreign Trade Policy</h1> The Government of India, through the Ministry of Commerce, amended the Import Policy for zinc, ash, residues, and skimming under the Foreign Trade Policy 1997-2002. The amendments, effective from December 23, 1999, specify that cotton, both carded and not carded, is free for import. However, all import contracts for cotton must be registered with the Textile Commissioner in Mumbai before importation, applicable until March 31, 2000. This notification, issued in public interest, was authorized by the Director General of Foreign Trade and the Deputy Director General of Foreign Trade.
