<h1>India Allows Import of Essential Goods for Cyclone Relief Under Foreign Trade Policy; Prohibited Items Excluded</h1> The Government of India, through the Ministry of Commerce, has issued a notification permitting the import of pharmaceuticals, drugs, textiles, and other articles for the relief and rehabilitation of cyclone victims in Orissa. These imports are allowed freely under the Foreign Trade Policy 1997-2002, as per the powers granted by the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992. However, items classified as 'Prohibited' in the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items are not permitted for import. This measure is issued in the public interest to aid cyclone victims.
