India Amends Import Policy for Zinc Ash and Skimmings: New Regulations Based on Zinc, Lead, and Cadmium Content
The Government of India has issued amendments to the Import Policy for zinc ash and skimmings under the Foreign Trade Policy 1997-2002. Zinc ash containing more than 65% zinc and lower levels of lead and cadmium is classified as 'Free' for import, provided the importing units are registered with the Ministry of Environment & Forest and adhere to specified quantity limits. Zinc ash with lower zinc content and higher levels of lead and cadmium is 'Restricted' and requires a license for import, intended only for processing or reuse. Similar conditions apply to zinc skimmings. These changes aim to regulate hazardous waste imports.
