<h1>India Amends Foreign Trade Policy: Raw Silk Imports Now Restricted, Require License or Public Notice Compliance Under Notification No. 18(RE-99).</h1> The Government of India has amended the Foreign Trade Policy regarding the import of raw silk. Under Notification No. 18(RE-99) 1997-2002, dated 8th July 1999, raw silk imports are now restricted and require a license or adherence to a Public Notice. Mulberry Raw Silk of Grade 2A and above is canalized through designated corporations such as the National Handloom Development Corporation and others related to handloom and silk. These agencies must inform the Ministry of Textiles before finalizing any import contracts. This amendment is issued in the public interest by the Ministry of Commerce.
