India Amends Foreign Trade Policy: New Clause on Mulberry Raw Silk Import Restrictions and Certification Requirements
The Government of India, under the Foreign Trade Policy 1997-2002, has amended the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items to include a new clause regarding the import of Mulberry Raw Silk. Imports are restricted to the ports of Calcutta, Chennai, and Mumbai. Verification of silk grade requires a certificate from internationally recognized agencies or testing by the Central Silk Board if no certificate is available. Customs authorities must report weekly to the Ministry of Textiles on the import quantity and value. This amendment is issued in the public interest.
