<h1>India Amends Import Rules: Special Import Licence Needed for Items Worth $20+ Per Square Meter</h1> The Government of India, through the Ministry of Commerce, issued Notification No. 4 (RE-99) dated 13th April 1999, amending the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items for 1997-2002. The amendment permits the import of certain items under a Special Import Licence (SIL) if the C.I.F. value is at least US $20 per square meter. This change is made under the authority of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, and is intended to serve the public interest. The notification is signed by the Director General of Foreign Trade.
