of <h1>Customs Act and Tariff Act Extended to India's Continental Shelf and Exclusive Economic Zone</h1> The Central Government extends the application of the Customs Act, 1962, and the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, to designated areas in India's Continental Shelf and Exclusive Economic Zone. This action is based on the powers granted by specific clauses of the Territorial Waters, Continental Shelf, Exclusive Economic Zone, and other Maritime Zone Act, 1976. The extension is effective immediately, as declared in the Ministry of External Affairs Notification No. S.O. 643(E), dated September 19, 1996, and formalized by Notification No. 64/97-Customs (N.T.) on December 1, 1997.
