of <h1>Customs Duty Exemptions for Mega Power Projects: Notification No. 49/2006 Amends No. 21/2002 for Thermal and Hydel Plants</h1> Notification No. 49/2006-Customs, dated May 26, 2006, amends the earlier notification No. 21/2002-Customs to provide customs duty exemptions for goods required for setting up mega power projects. These projects include inter-state thermal power plants of at least 700MW in certain northeastern states and 1000MW in other states, as well as inter-state hydel power plants of at least 350MW in the specified northeastern states and 500MW elsewhere. Additionally, power purchasing states must commit to privatizing distribution in cities with populations over one million within a timeframe set by the Ministry of Power.
