of <h1>Govt of India exempts goods with a general license under Merchant Shipping Act from excise duty. Effective July 29, 2011.</h1> Notification No. 38/2011-Central Excise, issued by the Government of India, amends a previous notification (No. 6/2006-Central Excise) to include an additional entry in the table. This amendment, effective from July 29, 2011, adds S. No. 94, which exempts all goods granted a general license under section 406 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958, from central excise duty. This change is made under the authority of section 5A of the Central Excise Act, 1944, in the public interest. The notification was published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary.
